Foundation Course in Safeguarding Investigations

2 - 6 February 2026 | Nairobi, Kenya | 5-days | £635 


This five-day intensive - in person - training course equips professionals in the humanitarian and development sectors with the skills to conduct thorough, survivor-centred investigations into Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH). 


Covering all phases of an investigation - from planning and risk assessment to interviewing and report writing - the course blends theory with practical exercises and real-world case studies. Participants will learn to uphold ethical and legal standards, manage complex risks, and understand the benefits of incorporating digital investigation techniques into case management plans. All approaches prioritise the dignity and safety of survivors throughout the investigative process.


Ideal for safeguarding officers, investigators, HR, and compliance professionals, this course offers the tools to drive accountability, foster organisational learning, and support survivor recovery. Training is delivered in person, by a multidisciplinary team of safeguarding specialists with extensive experience in domestic, international, and humanitarian contexts.


Participants should be aware that the course content may involve accounts of sexual abuse and explicit language. Refreshments and lunch are provided on training days, participants are responsible for their own accommodation and travel costs.


This training is consistent with global best practice, drawing on sector guidance including the CHS Alliance/Humentum Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH) Investigation Guide.


Certification is provided to successful participants.

Este curso intensivo de formación presencial de cinco días dota a profesionales de los sectores humanitario y de desarrollo con las habilidades necesarias para llevar a cabo investigaciones exhaustivas centradas en los sobrevivientes sobre Explotación, Abuso y Acoso Sexual (SEAH, por sus siglás en inglés).


Cubriendo todas las fases de una investigación —desde la planificación y evaluación de riesgos hasta entrevistas y redacción de informes— el curso combina teoría con ejercicios prácticos y estudios de caso reales. Los participantes aprenderán a mantener estándares éticos y legales, gestionar riesgos complejos y comprender los beneficios de incorporar técnicas de investigación digital en los planes de gestión de casos. Todos los enfoques priorizan la dignidad y seguridad de las sobrevivientes durante todo el proceso de investigación.


Ideal para oficiales de salvaguarda, investigadores, recursos humanos y profesionales de cumplimiento, este curso ofrece herramientas para impulsar la responsabilidad, fomentar el aprendizaje organizativo y apoyar la recuperación de sobrevivientes. La formación se imparte presencialmente, por un equipo multidisciplinario de especialistas en salvaguarda con amplia experiencia en contextos nacionales, internacionales y humanitarios.


Los participantes deben ser conscientes de que el contenido del curso puede incluir relatos de abuso sexual y lenguaje explícito. Se ofrecen meriendas y comidas los días de formación, y los participantes son responsables de su alojamiento y gastos de viaje.


Esta formación es coherente con las mejores prácticas globales, basándose en directrices sectoriales como la Guía de Investigación de Explotación, Abuso y Acoso Sexual (SEAH) de CHS Alliance/Humentum.

Latha Caleb has been in the development and humanitarian field since 1986.


Latha has a social science background and was trained by the CHS Alliance as an investigator and as a trainer of investigators. Latha has experience of developing and conducting safeguarding investigations training, having  trained more than 150 investigators.

Latha has conducted investigations in Asia and Africa and managed over 500 cases; acting as lead investigator for more than 50 incidents.


 Latha has held senior positions in various international non-governmental organisations including that of Country Director, Humanitarian Team Leader, Gender Adviser, and travelled to more than 40 countries and undertaken investigations in highly insecure environments such as Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan.

Abdiel is a safeguarding and human development specialist based in Guatemala with more than 11 years of professional experience. His experience has a focus on humanitarian and development interventions, local NGO capacity strengthening, and partner relationships.


Abdiel has wide experience in community development in the Latin America regi

Abdiel is a safeguarding and human development specialist based in Guatemala with more than 11 years of professional experience. His experience has a focus on humanitarian and development interventions, local NGO capacity strengthening, and partner relationships.


Abdiel has wide experience in community development in the Latin America region and wider experience of leading safeguarding in national and regional operations. Furthermore, he has supported diverse organisations to develop and implement safeguarding systems and feedback and complaints mechanisms.


Abdiel has been responsible for managing and conducting PSEAH investigations. Furthermore, he has experience in working with and senior staff and multi-cultural teams to enhance safeguarding and programme quality in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa.


Abdiel speaks  Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

Lorna is  a humanitarian and Human Resource professional with extensive experience in the international aid sector.


Lorna was  assigned to lead the review for the Philippine roll-out of “To Serve With Pride”, one of the first initiatives towards the prevention of exploitation and abuse in the humanitarian sector, for the Philippine Red Cro

Lorna is  a humanitarian and Human Resource professional with extensive experience in the international aid sector.


Lorna was  assigned to lead the review for the Philippine roll-out of “To Serve With Pride”, one of the first initiatives towards the prevention of exploitation and abuse in the humanitarian sector, for the Philippine Red Cross.


As the Director of Human Resources for Save the Children, Lorna was lead for Safeguarding and the conduct of investigations and case management. 


Lorna has worked with a INGO in Afghanistan to structure safeguarding investigation practices and conduct investigation training, particularly in employee relations, harassment,  and bullying.


Lorna has a degree in Psychology and graduate studies in Organisational Psychology.
